YOUNG PEOPLE FROM THE UTM JOIN THE INTEGRATION OF THE PED.

University Citizen Day was held at the request of the Secretary of Education in the State.
More than 150 young people from the UT of Matamoros joined in the formation of the State Development Plan 2016 – 2022, by participating in the University Citizen Day, in order to contribute to improving their environment in the coming years.
Three working groups addressed topics such as Citizen Security, Social Welfare and Sustainable Economic Development, in which the young people made important considerations that will undoubtedly be part of the Plan to be presented by the Governor of the State Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca.
UTM’s President, Dr. Ivett Bermea Vázquez, highlighted the relevance of this event, which was organized at the request of the Secretary of Education, Dr. Héctor Escobar Salazar, and in which young people from the following careers participated: Industrial Processes, Mechatronics, International Business Operations, as well as Project Management and Evaluation.
He emphasized the coordination and willingness of teachers Trinidad Treviño, Romualdo Vázquez, Eligio Rodríguez, Carlos Hinojosa, Miguel Angel Fuentes, Lidia Requena and Lilian Muñoz, to finally offer conclusions that add up to all the proposals that the State Government has captured through the PED Workshops.
Regarding the conclusions of this University Citizen’s Day, in the area of Social Welfare, the creation of recreational places for young people, such as museums, sports areas, in order to promote sociability among them, disseminating various events, keeping them away from delinquency, organization of brigades coordinated by students from the various educational institutions, encouraging habits such as cleanliness, recycling, etc., among the population; part-time jobs for students, allowing them to acquire experience, which is the greatest limitation to join the labor field; promoting healthy eating for young people and children; programs for recent graduates without work experience, in order to be hired in various companies in the community, among others.
In the area of Public Safety, they propose to promote education based on values at all educational levels to prevent antisocial and criminal behavior against society and the State; to increase the number of video surveillance cameras at strategic points in the most vulnerable areas with the highest incidence of crime; to increase lighting in public spaces and sectors of the city considered at high risk of crime; and to establish an official communication channel by the State Government to inform citizens of events that put their safety at risk, among others.
Regarding Sustainable Economic Development, the UTM youth said, among other things, that it is necessary to invest in infrastructure for the beach and promote tourism, create a technological theme amusement park to generate employment, commerce, recreation and consumption of services; construction of a Convention Center, as well as other contributions in agriculture and fishing, industry, international infrastructure and ports, public transportation and air connection and quality rural schools.
Those who had the important task of moderating the work tables were Alicia Estrada, Lucía Aguilera and Alejandro Fernández.
The rector thanked all the participants for contributing to the State Development Plan 2016 – 2022, certain that the students of the UTM have much to contribute to improve their environment.
