XI REGIONAL SPORTS AND CULTURAL MEETING OF TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITIES, MATAMOROS 2013
The Technological University of Matamoros, Universidad Tecnológica de Matamoros, was crowned champion in the XIV Regional Sports Meeting of Technological Universities «Matamoros 2013», which brought together more than 500 athletes from Technological Universities of Tamaulipas and Nuevo León.
Prior to the matches in the different sports disciplines, a brilliant opening ceremony was held with the presence of municipal, state and sports authorities, headed by Mr. José Antonio Tovar Lara, rector of the Technological University of Matamoros.
In a message addressed to the delegations of participating athletes, the UTM rector said «for our institution is proud to host for the second time, an event that brings together the best of sports of the Technological Universities of the states of Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas».
And on behalf of the Secretary of Education of Tamaulipas, Dr. Diódoro Guerra Rodríguez, I give the warmest welcome to the sports delegations from the sister universities of Altamira, Nuevo Laredo, Reynosa, Linares and Matamoros.
By welcoming you young athletes we strengthen the bonds of brotherhood between our universities and contribute to strengthen the commitment to the integral formation of each one of you.
As you know, one of the main values of the Technological Universities is to train high quality professionals with commitment and responsibility that put the name of the Technological Universities of Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon on high, he added in his message.
At the opening ceremony, which was enlivened by the University’s own students, integrated in the Marching Band, Music Band, Cheerleading Group, Tae Kwon Do team, students from high school institutions, including ITACE, Conalep and Cobat, were present.
At the end of the ceremony, there was an exhibition of American soccer «Halcones», recently integrated in the Technological University of Matamoros, who faced the «Vaqueros» from Reynosa.
At the end of the ceremony, the matches between the participating universities began immediately.
The «Matamoros 2013» Regional Sports Meeting of Technological Universities concluded on Saturday, February 9, with UTM being crowned champion in baseball, men’s and women’s fast soccer, women’s basketball, and women’s volleyball.
The rector of UTM, José Antonio Tovar Lara, accompanies the winning athletes with their trophies. As part of the opening ceremony of the sporting event, a soccer exhibition was offered between the UTM "Halcones" and the Reynosa "Vaqueros". The Universidad Tecnológica de Matamoros Music Band, its animation group and the War Band participated in the inauguration ceremony.
