UTMatamoros Pride!

Michell Vélez Arriaga is crowned National ANUIES Champion after winning the gold medal in Olympic snatch at the National University Championship held in Monterrey, N.L., from May 16 to 20. And that’s not all!

She also earned two silver medals in clean and jerk and biathlon — pure Tamaulipas power!

A historic milestone for our university:

The first sports medal in the most important university event in Mexico, where the country’s top public and private universities compete.

We also recognize our student Mariana Yamileh Cortéz José, who earned a well-deserved 7th place nationally in weightlifting, showing perseverance, dedication, and competitive spirit.

This achievement reflects individual effort, the unconditional support of their families, and the expert guidance of coach Joaquín Castañeda Cruz.

Thank you for inspiring us, Michell and Mariana.

Thanks to Governor Dr. Américo Villarreal Anaya for his strong support of university sports and young talent in Tamaulipas.

Let’s keep going!

Tamaulipas rising!
