UTM WINS STATE CONTEST OF CREATIVITY AND TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION, IN REGIONAL STAGE

With the «Locksmiths» project, students from the Technological University of Matamoros won first place in the 18th. State Contest of Creativity in its regional stage, demonstrating their creativity in the creation of prototypes that represent a practical solution to specific problems.

The rector of the Technological University of Matamoros, Universidad Tecnológica de Matamoros, José Antonio Tovar Lara, explained that for the third consecutive year UTM won the State Contest, in its regional stage, organized by the Government of Tamaulipas through the Ministry of Education and the Tamaulipas Council of Science and Technology -Cotacyt-, which was held at the Technological Institute of Matamoros.

It is very important for this Institution that its students put into practice their inventive capacity, that they build prototypes that solve specific problems, as is the case of the «Locksmiths» project, which is a security system for automobiles using RFID protocol (radio frequency identification technology), he said.

The prototype was created by Juan Francisco Gaspar Chiquito, a student of the Mechatronics Engineering program and advised by Miguel Angel Santés Gómez, a professor at the institution.

It is important to mention that at the higher category level, the Technological University of Matamoros also won third place with the «green project» aimed at agro-food for self-consumption. This project was presented by a team of students represented by Sergio Horacio Paredes Cisneros and advised by Misael Condado Ponderosa.

The winning students of the 18th. State Creativity Contest, in its regional stage, obtained their pass to the state event to be held next November.

Among the specific objectives of the contest are: to encourage the participation of the Tamaulipas community in the design of specific projects and the creation of new products or services of interest to the community, the state and the country, and to encourage entrepreneurship and self-employment, as well as alliances between the productive sector and the participants so that the projects and prototypes with technical and economic feasibility presented by the participants can be carried out on a commercial and/or industrial scale.
