UTM students hold “ROCKER-BOGIE” Robot Prototype Exhibit

This morning students of the TSU in Mechatronics and TSU in Information and Communication Technologies of the 2nd semester carried out the exhibition of a prototype of a Rocker-Bogie robot made with applied geometry within the subject of Mathematical Functions taught by Eng. Norma Leal.

During the exhibition the students were accompanied by Ms. Diana Masso Quintana, Rector of UTM, to whom they explained that the robots they made are examples of the initial prototypes developed by NASA using geometric bodies.

The Rocker-bogie system is the suspension arrangement developed in 1988 for use on NASA’s Mars rover Sojourner, and has since become NASA’s favorite design for rovers. It has been used on the Spirit and Opportunity rovers of the 2003 Mars Exploration Rover mission, on the Curiosity rover of the 2012 Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission, and on the Mars 2020 Perseverance rover.
