UTM robotics team among the top three in the world
Students from Universidad Tecnológica de Matamoros’ robotics team that represented Mexico in the Vex Summer Games 2014 World Championship held in Honolulu, Hawaii won third place after competing with more than 200 teams from countries such as China, the United States, New Zealand, Brazil, Puerto Rico, among others.
This new achievement by UTM students is the result of the public policies of the governor of Tamaulipas, Egidio Torre Cantu, who through the State Education Plan 2011-2016, promotes programs for students of higher education institutions to develop their science and technology skills applied to robotics.
José Antonio Tovar Lara, rector of Universidad Tecnológica de Matamoros said that this achievement also reflects the support of the Secretary of Education in Tamaulipas, Dr. Diódoro Guerra Rodríguez, who has supported the work done by the institution so that students can demonstrate their knowledge and skills in this area at a global level.
And as a result of the achievements worldwide and the work UTM is doing to promote technological development among its students, the president of Grupo Reeduca, Francisco Wilson Robles announced the creation of the Robotics Academy of the State of Tamaulipas.
This Academy will be endorsed by the Carnegie Mellon Robotics Academy and will be headed by Universidad Tecnológica de Matamoros, given the enthusiasm and commitment it has shown in each of the projects, states Wilson Robles.
The UTM robotics team that competed in Hawaii against more than 200 teams from different countries, was integrated by Luis Bautista Tovar, Gemma Dennise Ruiz Balleza, Cristhian Díaz Hernández, as well as the master professor in robotics, Ricardo Esteban Treviño Parras.
Among the achievements of UTM’s robotics team are: tournament champion 2011; bouild award 2012; programming 2013; design and excellence 2013; design 2014; construction 2014 and excellence 2014.
