UTM LIONS ARE REGIONAL CHAMPIONS
Their sports teams beat the universities of Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon.
UTM Lions are regional champions
The Matamoros Technological University Lions won the XVII Regional Sports and Cultural Meeting of Technological Universities by beating the sports teams of the Technological Universities of Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon.
This sporting event was held February 17-19 in Altamira, Tamaulipas, with the participation of the Technological Universities of Matamoros, Altamira, North Tamaulipas and Nuevo Laredo, while the institutions of Linares, Cadereyta, Santa Catarina and Linares participated for Nuevo León.
At the end of the day, the Matamoros Technological University Leones won the championships in men’s basketball, men’s and women’s volleyball, association soccer and fast soccer, becoming the leaders of region 3, which includes the universities mentioned above.
At this sports and cultural meeting, student Karen Vanesa Villarreal González also won first place in the singing contest by masterfully performing the songs «Rodando en las profundidades» by Adelle and «Siempre te amaré» by Witney Houston.
Now the UTM Lions will intensify their training to proudly represent Region 3 -Tamaulipas and Nuevo León- in the National Sports and Cultural Meeting of Technological and Polytechnic Universities «Saltillo 2016» to be held from March 17 to 20 of this year.
To these winning teams, UTM will add its Tae Kwon Do, Chess and Athletics teams, made up of outstanding students in these important disciplines.
