UTM IS A UNIVERSITY OF YOUNG WINNERS: EGIDIO TORRE CANTÚ

 

The Governor of Tamaulipas, Mr. Egidio Torre Cantú visited Universidad Tecnológica de Matamoros to recognize the robotics team that will represent Mexico in the 2015 «VEX U World Championship», as well as to deliver more than 900 scholarships from the Manutención program and the keys to a 2015 Volvo bus that will be used by the students for their internships in Mexico and abroad.

During his visit to UTM, the State Chief Executive also presented the first place award to the acrobatic animation group that won the 2015 National Championship held in Acapulco, Guerrero.

In the meeting with the students of Universidad Tecnológica de Matamoros, the Governor of Tamaulipas was accompanied by the Secretary of Education in Tamaulipas, Dr. Diódoro Guerra Rodríguez and by the Secretary of Social Development, Antonio Martínez Torres. Also present at the ceremony were Javier Lozano Garza, INTEVA’s plant manager, and Estefania Garza Salinas, representing the students.

Egidio Torre Cantú said: «I have the opportunity to greet you, to give you these scholarships, these awards, but above all, to prove in facts, that this university is made up of young men and women who every day prepare themselves better and better for the present and future of Tamaulipas», he added.

The truth is that it is a source of great pride for me to see how they are preparing themselves better and better; we have a system of universities that collaborate in a very important way with all the higher education institutions to form better citizens, and Universidad Tecnológica de Matamoros stands out among them.

For their results, for their achievements, because they have a great enrollment, but above all, they have young men and women who have one thing in mind, to prepare themselves better and better to continue building a better Matamoros, a better Tamaulipas,» he said in his message.

José Antonio Tovar Lara, UTM’s rector, thanked Mr. Egidio Torre Cantú for all the support he has given to the institution, which has allowed this university to become one of the best in Tamaulipas. Being certified and accredited by national and international organizations such as: CACECA, CACEI, CONAIC and CIEES. By the Spanish company AENOR, MICROSOFT, National Instruments and Coepris.

He added that UTM is also a TOEFL testing center and is certified by Carnegie Mellon University in Information Technology. UNESCO, in addressing the Governor, recognized UTM as a Friend School and received the Ibero-American Award for educational quality.

He also mentioned the awards given to UTM by the Secretaries of Public Education, Alfonso Lujambio and José Ángel Córdova Villalobos.

Before concluding his message, Tovar Lara thanked the Chief Executive for the construction of the 18 million peso building for the telecommunications, software development, instrumentation and robotics laboratories.

He also mentioned the achievements of the robotics teams that won third place in the world in 2014 and in 2015 for the fourth time will represent Mexico in the world championship to be held in Kentucky, United States. Also the internationalization of its students who participate in scholarship programs such as Mexproctec for stays in France, Spain and Cuba, in the latter country, 20 students will perform technical internships after signing a collaboration agreement with the Ministry of Education with the Ambassador of Mexico in Cuba, José Bremer, as a witness.

Representing the students, young Estefania Garza Salinas also expressed her gratitude to the Governor for the scholarship programs, the bus delivered, the new building for laboratories and for all the support granted during his administration.

Finally, the State Chief Executive stepped down from the stage accompanied by the UTM Rector to hand over the keys of a 2015 Volvo bus to be used by the students for their technical internships in the United States and Canada, mainly.
