UTM HOLDS 2011 CREATIVITY CONTEST

 

With the purpose of encouraging the participation of its students in the development of projects in the areas of Science, Technology and Humanities, the UTM, directed by Mr. José Antonio Tovar Lara, held the X Creativity Contest 2011, in which a total of 53 projects were submitted by students of Mechatronics Engineering, Production Systems, Maintenance, International Logistics, as well as Higher University Technician in Information and Communication Technologies.

The contest was endorsed by personalities of great prestige among the academic community, who gathered in the cultural area of the UTM’s Connection building to see each of the 53 projects presented by the students and make the corresponding evaluation.

After the tour and after receiving the explanation from the participating teams, the evaluation committee chose the project called «Oh Robot» as the winner of the Creativity Contest 2011.

This project was presented by a group of students in the fourth quarter of the Mechatronics Engineering program, represented by Jesús Rafael Hernández; second place went to the project called «Systemat», represented by student Carlos Alberto Pérez and third place went to the project called «Ratonera Robotizada» (Robotized Mousetrap).

The winning projects were awarded the following prizes: 3 thousand pesos for the first place; two thousand pesos for the second place and one thousand pesos for third place.

With this type of competition, the rector of the University, Mr. José Antonio Tovar Lara, promotes scientific and technological research and innovation activities among students and professors, as well as strengthening creativity in productive, social and educational processes.

The contest included the following categories: Ecology and Environment; Electricity and Electronics; Mechanics and Engineering; Continuous Improvement in Industrial Processes; and Optimization of Equipment and Apparatus on the market.

As part of the creativity contest, there was an exhibition of the work performed by the robots with which the UTM won first place in the Vex Robotics Tournament, during the meeting held in Altamira, Tamaulipas.

This triumph by UTM students allowed them to win their pass to the world robotics tournament to be held in 2012 in Anaheim, California, where they will represent Mexico and compete against countries such as Japan, Italy, Brazil, among others.
