UTM GENDER EQUITY PROGRAM WITH MARTA LAMAS, SUSANA ALEXANDER AND TERE BERMEA A SUCCESS

With great success, the Technological University of Matamoros, Universidad Tecnológica de Matamoros, concluded the series of lectures, courses and workshops on gender equity, with the participation of writer Marta Lamas, actress Susana Alexander and communicator Tere Bermea, organized to strengthen the values and attitudes of the university community on issues of gender equity, human rights and a culture of legality.
These magnificent events organized by the UTM, presided over by its rector, Mr. José Antonio Tovar Lara, brought together the university community, but also the civil society of Matamoros, among them, cultural personalities, businessmen, public officials, directors of high school and higher education institutions, as well as women who work in the maquiladora industry.
The writer Marta Lamas gave a lecture on «What do we talk about when we talk about gender?»; the renowned actress Susana Alexander addressed the topic «The role of women in Mexico in the 21st Century», while the communicator Tere Bermea gave a lecture on «Gender Equity: An Everyday Challenge».
Among the attendees were Senator Sandra Luz García Guajardo and local congresswoman-elect Mónica González García, among other personalities.
At the conclusion of the series of conferences, courses and workshops, UTM’s rector, Mr. José Antonio Tovar Lara said that for the Technological University of Matamoros, as an institution of higher education, it is of great importance to strengthen values and attitudes among the university community on important issues such as gender equity, human rights and the culture of legality because promoting equality as one of the basic human rights is a way to ensure that all people have the same living and working conditions.
At the end of each conference, the UTM Rector presented an award to the outstanding speakers for accepting the invitation of the Universidad Tecnológica de Matamoros to share their knowledge with the university community.
