THE TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY OF MATAMOROS OBTAINS TICKET TO WORLD ROBOTICS TOURNAMENT

Luis Felipe Alcocer Espinosa presented the Technological University of Matamoros, presided by Mr. José Antonio Tovar Lara, with the first place trophy obtained in the First Vex Robotics Tournament held in Altamira, Tamaulipas, earning a pass to participate in the world robotics meeting to be held in Anaheim, California in April 2012.

This new achievement of the Technological University of Matamoros is largely due to the support that the Secretary of Education in Tamaulipas, Doctor Diódoro Guerra Rodríguez, has given to technological education in the state, as well as to the academic preparation of students, teachers and advisors of the robotics program.

Twenty-eight educational institutions participated in this first Vex Robotics Tournament, including the Technological Universities of Matamoros, Valle del Mezquital, Veracruz Center, Ciudad Juarez, Leon, Nuevo Laredo, Altamira, Hidalgo, as well as Technological Institutes, Polytechnic Universities, private universities, among others.

The robotics competition took place at the Petrochemical Hall in Altamira, Tamaulipas, where the Technological University of Matamoros won its pass to the round of 16, then to the quarterfinals and in the last stage when facing the Technological University of Veracruz Center managed to win the Robotics Vex Tournament thus obtaining its pass to the world competition to be held in the city of Anaheim California, United States of America, from April 18 to 21, 2012, where teams from Japan, Germany, France, Brazil, Canada, United States and now Mexico are expected to participate, with UTM attending as TOURNAMENT CHAMPION (2011-2012).

UTM participated in the tournament with robots programmed by professors and students of this institution; the eight-motor robots with autonomous and manual commands, which handle spheres and cylinders of 10 centimeters in diameter, transported and placed the objects in baskets previously located in an area called work field.

The competition held in the First Robotics Tournament consisted of the robots placing the largest number of cylinders or spheres in the baskets in the shortest time possible, with a maximum time of 60 seconds of autonomy and 120 seconds of remote control.

For this achievement, Luis Felipe Alcocer Espinosa, Undersecretary of Secondary and Higher Education in Tamaulipas, congratulated the UTM students because their work and creativity allowed them to obtain this triumph, which is added to other important recognitions that the University has.
