Students from the Technological University of Matamoros represent Mexico in World Robotics Encounter

Students from the Technological University of Matamoros will represent Mexico at the World Robotics Meeting to be held April 18-22 in Anaheim, California, in the United States of America.

The UTM students obtained their pass to the World Robotics Meeting after winning the First Vex Robotics Tournament in which 28 educational institutions participated, including Technological Universities, Technological Institutes, Polytechnic Universities, as well as private universities.

In the world meeting, the Technological University of Matamoros represents Mexico as TOURNAMENT CHAMPION 2011-2012 and faces teams from Japan, Germany, France, Brazil, Canada, United States, New Zealand, among other countries.

The robots with which the Technological University of Matamoros participates are programmed by professors and students of this institution; the robots have eight motors with autonomous and manual commands, which handle spheres and cylinders of 10 centimeters in diameter; they transport and place the objects in baskets previously located in an area called work field.

The competition that UTM students won in Mexico and that gave them a pass to the world championship, consisted of the robots placing in the baskets the largest number of cylinders or spheres in the shortest time possible, with a maximum time of 60 seconds of autonomy and 120 seconds of remote control.

For this important achievement, UTM, directed by Mr. José Antonio Tovar Lara, received recognition from state authorities.
