RECTOR OF THE TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY OF MATAMOROS PRESENTS REPORT

Rector of the Technological University of Matamoros gives report

The rector of the Technological University of Matamoros, José Antonio Tovar Lara, gave a detailed report to the members of the Council on the state of the institution, highlighting its strengths, among them, first place in enrollment at the state level in the 2012 cycle, sports leader in the state, healthy finances and above all its quality academic programs, recognized by the Ministry of Public Education.

These strengths were explained one by one during the twenty-fifth board meeting, which was attended by: Esteban J. Romero Ramirez, from the General Coordination of Technological Universities; the Director of Linkage, from the Secretariat of Education in Tamaulipas, Patricio Garza Tapia, as well as representatives from the City Hall, the Secretariat of Finance, Economic Development, the business sector, labor, among others.

In his report, the rector of the Technological University of Matamoros explained that 2012 was a year of great achievements for the institution, one of them was the recognition of the SEP through the then Secretary of Education, José Angel Córdova Villalobos, who recognized UTM «as an exemplary institution in the efforts of external evaluation and accreditation, which has allowed them to achieve that 100 percent of their enrollment at the Higher University Technician level study new quality programs».

Tovar Lara mentioned that before the end of 2012, Governor Egidio Torre Cantú visited UTM to start up a new laboratory with an investment of more than 18 million pesos.

Another great achievement was the significant enrollment registered in the 2012-2013 cycle, which placed UTM in first place among the Technological Universities of Tamaulipas.

In his report, the rector also informed of the achievements obtained in the XIV Regional Sports and Cultural Tournament of Technological Universities, among them, the first places in volleyball, fast soccer, women’s basketball and fast soccer and men’s baseball, which entitle the university to represent Tamaulipas in the XVII Sports Meeting to be held in Querétaro from March 21 to 24 of this year.

Another of the most important mentions are the accreditations that the university has achieved by accrediting organizations such as CACECA, ABS, CIEES, CACEI TOEFL, MICROSOFT, NATIONAL INSTRUMENT, iCarnegie Mellon, among others.
