TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY OF MATAMOROS WINS GOLD MEDAL IN NATIONAL SPORTS MEETING

Held in Querétaro from March 21 to 24.
The Technological University of Matamoros was once again crowned champion at the XVII National Sports and Cultural Meeting of Technological and Polytechnic Universities «Queretaro 2013» by winning a gold medal in high jump; three silver medals in Tae Kwon Do; bronze medal in 110 meters hurdles and third place nationally in baseball.
These medals were obtained by the teams representing the Technological University of Matamoros after competing and winning against teams of students from 65 institutions from all over the country that met in Querétaro from March 21 to 24 to participate in the sports tournament.
The UTM teams had been crowned champions in the Regional Sports and Cultural Meeting of Technological Universities «Matamoros 2013″ held from February 7 to 9, a tournament that gave them the pass to participate in the national sports competition.
For these important achievements, UTM Rector José Antonio Tovar Lara congratulated the winning students, as well as the coaches and sports coordinators for their efforts in the sports competition.
Receive my sincere congratulations for these great achievements that put the name of the Technological University of Matamoros on a high note,» he said to the young students when he spoke to them by telephone at the conclusion of each of the sporting events.
The gold medal was won by student José Antonio González Rodríguez, who performed an impressive high jump of 1.90 meters; his closest opponent jumped 1.65 meters. González Rodríguez also won a bronze medal in the 110-meter hurdles.
Students Cristóbal Ballí García, Sigifredo Ballí García and Juan Edmundo García Torres obtained silver medals after winning in different stages against several of their Tae Kwon Do opponents from different parts of the country.
The baseball team also demonstrated its strength by beating teams from the universities of Nayarit, Tabasco and Zacatecas, finally obtaining third place at the national level.
These important achievements reaffirm that UTM, in addition to being an institution where 100 percent of its students study with quality programs, also stands out in sports activities that contribute to the integral development of each of its students.
