THE TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY OF MATAMOROS SIGNS MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH ALAMO COMMUNITY COLLEGES

Within the framework of the International Agreement between the General Coordination of Technological Universities and the Alamo Community Colleges of San Antonio Texas, on Wednesday, May 28, 2013, Dr. Bruce H. Leslie, president of the Alamo Colleges District, and Mr. José Antonio Tovar Lara, president of the Technological University of Matamoros, signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions.

Dr. Bruce H. Leslie emphasized the benefits that will be obtained with the signing of this exchange agreement because it generates a commitment between both universities to remain at the forefront of the technological demands required by the economic development of both regions.

The Alamo Community Colleges (ACC), one of the most prestigious colleges in the state of Texas and the United States, is composed of five community colleges and different technological training centers, with an enrollment of more than one hundred thousand students.

The geographical proximity between the city of Matamoros, Tamaulipas and San Antonio, Texas allows students and professors to take practical courses in a hybrid mode, combining distance learning (on-line) and face-to-face.

These hybrid courses consider that in the first stage, ACC professors will use the modern videoconferencing equipment available at UTM to teach their courses on-line; in the second stage, students and/or professors will travel to one of the Alamo Community schools to carry out the technological practices required by the theoretical teaching received at a distance; and in the third stage, UTM students will again receive on-line the latest topics and deliver a completed project through which ACC professors can evaluate and certify them in the acquired competencies.

The certificates issued by ACC have curricular value both in Mexico and the USA.

It is worth mentioning that the technology used in ACC courses is the most modern available in the industrial market, for example: humanoid robots, bioloid and nao (students must assemble and program their own robot, using servomotor technologies, audio sensors, presence of objects); welding courses in high-pressure pipes for use in the oil industry, automation for industrial processes, Toyota production systems, reduction of polluting waste in the industry, CISCO connectivity systems, English courses and various continuing education programs for workers in our productive sector.

With the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with ACC, UTM ratifies its commitment to strengthen its programs and curricula and direct them towards internationalization, as indicated by UNESCO.
