THE TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY OF MATAMOROS IS CROWNED CHAMPION IN SECOND TAE KWON DO CUP

The Technological University of Matamoros was crowned champion in the Second Tae Kwon Do UTM Cup, organized as part of its tenth anniversary and the twentieth anniversary of the Technological Universities in the country.

The sporting event, held in the cultural area of the Vinculación building, was inaugurated by Mr. José Antonio Tovar Lara, rector of the Technological University of Matamoros, who welcomed each of the participating teams.

Participating in the sports competition were: Universidad Tecnológica de Tamaulipas Norte, Universidad Valle de México Campus Reynosa, Instituto Internacional de Estudios Superiores, Instituto Tecnológico de Matamoros, Escuela Preparatoria Ricardo Flores Magón, Escuela Preparatoria Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla No. 1, as well as the host institution, Technological University of Matamoros.

After several encounters, the Technological University of Matamoros won nine first-place medals; second place was won by the Technological Institute of Matamoros; third place was won by the «Ricardo Flores Magón» federal high school for cooperation; fourth place was won by the athletes of the International Institute of Higher Education, while fifth place was won by the Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla School number 1.

During the same ceremony, Mr. José Antonio Tovar Lara received from a group of students from the Technological University of Matamoros, the recognition of first place in the Vex Robotics National Tournament, held in Altamira, Tamaulipas, where 28 institutions participated, including Technological Universities, Polytechnic Universities, as well as Technological Institutes from different states of the Mexican Republic.

The meeting of the Second Tae Kwon Do UTM Cup was also the occasion for the rector of the institution to present Professor Nicolás Mendoza with the instruments to form the first music band at the University.

Mr. Tovar Lara also presented awards to the teachers of the institution who completed the diploma course «Methodological Tools for Training Based on Professional Competencies» given by the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey and in the XVIII Binational Meeting «Moving Ahead to the Future 2011» held in Brownsville, Texas.
