FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON APPLIED SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY PRESENTED BY UTM A SUCCESS

First International Congress on Applied Science and Technology presented by UTM a great success

The First International Congress of Applied Science and Technology and the Plenary Forum on Energy organized by the Technological University of Matamoros, in compliance with the actions in the area of education outlined in the State Development Plan promoted by the Constitutional Governor of Tamaulipas, Egidio Torre Cantu, brought together 34 scientists and researchers from Germany, Bulgaria, Spain, the United States, Mexico, England, Iran, Israel and Armenia.

This great event, which also aimed to strengthen the scientific, technological and competitiveness capacities of the productive sectors, was inaugurated by Monica Gonzalez Garcia, Secretary of Economic Development and Tourism and personal representative of the Governor of Tamaulipas, during an event attended by Mayor Norma Leticia Salazar Vazquez, the rector of UTM, Jose Antonio Tovar Lara and hundreds of attendees.

The rector of the institution welcomed the representatives of the private sector, civil society, students from institutions throughout the state, researchers and academics, university rectors, high school principals and elementary school children who have excelled in science and technology.

It is a great satisfaction, he said, to know that all of us gathered here to have a common interest; we are united by our interest in scientific and technological development because we know that the prosperity of the people depends to a great extent on the proper application of science and technology.

In the presence also of Patricio Garza Tapia, Director of the Ministry of Education, Tovar Lara highlighted the participation of UTM students, who last April represented Mexico in the Vex Robotics World Championship, held in Anaheim, California, and were among the ten best robotics teams in the world.

The opening ceremony of the First Congress of Applied Science and Technology was also attended by very special guests such as the most brilliant children of science and technology in the city, among them, «a young girl who has captivated us with her intelligence and simplicity, who has been on the cover of Time magazine and has become a role model, I am referring to Paloma Marlene Noyola Bueno».

Egidio Torre Cantu for the permanent support he gives to higher education institutions to develop science and technology.

Mónica González Garcìa, Secretary of Economic Development and Tourism said in her message that the Governor of Tamaulipas, Mr. Egidio Torre Cantú, is a promoter of innovation, research and technology transfer as he considers them fundamental factors in economic development because it is precisely through technological development that we can bring more productive investment with added value and better-paid jobs, both in the already consolidated industrial sectors, as well as to take advantage of the energy reform to a greater extent.

He congratulated the Technological University of Matamoros for making this meeting of scientists and researchers possible and reiterated his commitment to continue working with businessmen and educational institutions to achieve, together, greater opportunities for all.

Mayor Norma Leticia Salazar Vázquez also congratulated the Technological University of Matamoros for organizing such significant events. I am sure,» she said, «that through events like this, we not only open opportunities for new professionals and young people who are pursuing their professional careers but also ensure a successful and innovative tomorrow for our great city.
