DIÓDORO GUERRA PRESIDES OVER THE XXIII UTM BOARD MEETING

The Secretary of Education in Tamaulipas, Dr. Diódoro Guerra Rodríguez presided over the twenty-third ordinary board meeting of the Technological University of Matamoros, in which the rector of the institution, Mr. José Antonio Tovar Lara, gave a report on the state of the educational institution in academic, infrastructure and financial matters.
Addressing the members of the Council, among them representatives of the federal, state and municipal governments, the private sector and the labor sector, the UTM Rector reported on the academic achievements to date, including the students’ educational achievement, which is currently well above the national average.
During the meeting, he also highlighted the important performance of the group of students who participated in the World Robotics Meeting, held in Anaheim, California, where they represented Mexico.
In that meeting held in April, UTM students representing Mexico managed to beat teams from the United States, New Zealand, United Kingdom and Singapore; finally in the round of 16 they were defeated by Puerto Rico.
The rector of the institution also detailed the results of the extracurricular classes that have allowed the consolidation of teams such as fast soccer, baseball and tae kwon do, which had a very outstanding participation in the Sports and Cultural Encounter of Technological Universities held in Zacatecas, where they won silver and bronze medals.
Among other topics addressed by Mr. José Antonio Tovar Lara were the recent accreditations by the Accreditation Council for Engineering Education A.C. (CACEI) to the careers of Mechatronics, Efficient Electrical Installations and Industrial Maintenance.
In the same context, it was informed that the University has experienced a very significant growth in its enrollment, allowing a total of 2,500 students in the Technical University and Engineering degrees to be enrolled in September.
At the end of the meeting, the Secretary of Education of the Government of Tamaulipas, Dr. Diódoro Guerra Rodríguez, said that the fact that the University accredits its programs speaks very well of the educational quality offered to the students.
Each of the Councilors present also issued their opinion regarding the report offered by the Rector, highlighting that the programs he develops are solid and well defined for the benefit of the school population.
